According to the University of Tsukuba, the new facility will be built on a site of about 3 square meters for the University of Tsukuba staff dormitory in Azuma, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.A company will set up a research institute within the facility, and utilize the knowledge of the University of Tsukuba to advance development research until business creation.
In addition, a space of 100 meters in length, 70 meters in width and 22 meters in height will be provided for demonstration experiments such as drones.About 200 billion yen procured through the issuance of university bonds will be used to develop the facilities.While companies can maintain their research institutes without acquiring fixed assets, the University of Tsukuba can also expect to improve its research capabilities by promoting research through industry-academia collaboration.
The Japanese economy has been in a period of stagnation called the “lost 30 years.” Although its GDP (gross domestic product) remains third in the world after the United States and China, the global competitiveness ranking compiled by the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland has fallen to a record low of 3th in 2023.
