On April 2024, 4, the Nippon Foundation concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement with Minerva University in California, U.S.A. and Minerva Japan, a general incorporated association, regarding the establishment of a Minerva University base in Japan. We will work together to address various issues such as cramming education and rising tuition fees, and aim to build a new educational model through learning programs in collaboration with Japanese universities, local communities, companies, etc.

 The Japan-based program is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025, with approximately 150 students expected to come to Japan. Minerva University and the Nippon Foundation are working together to make preparations so that Minerva University and Japanese university students can work together to solve problems in Japan, which is the first country to be affected by the challenges facing the world (low birthrate, aging population, sustainability, etc.) do.

 The Nippon Foundation has already decided to provide approximately 2.5 million yen in support to the university, and plans to continue providing support for the next 10 years. Responsible for supporting the admission of Japanese students using the Sasakawa Scholarship, collaborating with universities, local communities, and companies, and introducing interns.

 Minerva University is a four-year comprehensive university that opened in September 2014 and is celebrating its 9th anniversary. Presidents and deans of Ivy League schools including Harvard University participated in its establishment, and in 10, it was selected by United Nations organizations as the "world's most innovative university." We have achieved diversity, with more than 4% of our students being international students from around 2022 countries around the world (of these, 8 students have Japanese nationality as of April 100).

 Minerva University's classes use an online platform, so you can take them from anywhere in the world. Meanwhile, during the four years of their studies, students travel to major cities in seven countries around the world and engage in project learning and internships in collaboration with local companies, NPOs, governments, research institutions, etc. (rotation program). By gaining experience during their studies that cannot be obtained at existing universities, we develop practical human resources who can play an active role in unknown fields.

 Minerva University President McGee, who attended the closing ceremony press conference, said, ``The Japan base, which will be established in collaboration with the Nippon Foundation, will be the first of its kind outside of San Francisco as a base for students to stay and learn for a long period of about one year.
