President Yuko Tanaka of Hosei University, President Yoichiro Matsumoto of Tokyo University of Science, and President Norihiko Fukuhara of Chuo University told the Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike on September 2019, 9.・ Submitted a proposal for the conservation and regeneration of the diversion network.
From ancient times, the flow of water from Hamura on the Tama River to Tamagawa Josui, Sotobori, Kanda River, Nihonbashi River, and Sumida River has been a water resource that supports the "city of water, Edo" as the main water artery of Tokyo. However, the deterioration of the water quality of the Nihonbashi River is currently a problem, and the cause is said to be the blue-green algae of the outer moat that occurs due to lack of sufficient water sources.
Hosei University, Tokyo Science University, and Chuo University, which have campuses around the Sotobori of Edo Castle, will revive this water aorta, purify the water quality of the Sotobori and Nihonbashi Rivers, and make Tokyo a sustainable city. It is important, and there is a consensus that the three universities should cooperate in promoting it.Therefore, it was decided to submit a proposal to Tokyo under the joint name.
The recommendations made by the three universities are three items. The first is "By guiding river water from the Tama River to the Tamagawa Josui, Sotobori, and Nihonbashi Rivers, we will position it as a green infrastructure that plays a role in water purification, water cycle improvement, disaster prevention water utilization, and conservation and regeneration of natural history and culture. matter". The second is "The Nihonbashi River, where the redevelopment of the Sotobori and the riverside, which will be the marathon course of the 3 Tokyo Olympic Games, is progressing, will promptly improve the water quality by passing river water on a trial basis." The third is "to establish a committee, etc. to collect the knowledge of universities, research institutes, and citizens (organizations) and collaborate on the examination of water quality improvement and maintenance of these water systems."
Hosei University, Tokyo University of Science, and Chuo University have long been conducting research to improve the water quality of the Edo Castle Sotobori and Nihonbashi River, which are precious waterside spaces in the city center, and collaborate with neighboring high schools and residents' associations. However, it also conducts various education and social activities on the conservation and regeneration of waterside.
