The research team of Researcher Reiko Todaka of Kitasato University Satoshi Omura Memorial Research Institute Virus Infection Control I Laboratory is a new type of coronavirus, which is a disinfectant used in non-medicinal products and miscellaneous goods on the market and in the medical field. The effect on the virus was investigated and announced. This is the research result following "On the inactivating effect of the new coronavirus of quasi-drugs and miscellaneous goods" announced on April 2020, 4.

In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, it is extremely important to disinfect hands and fingers, disinfect things that people touch, disinfect medical equipment used for patients, and disinfect the hospital environment. In addition, prevention of infection with the new coronavirus in daily life is indispensable for us to lead a healthy life.

Therefore, the research team further developed the research announced in April and investigated the inactivating effect on the new coronavirus with more products. In addition to ethanol and sodium hypochlorite, we used surfactants, which are the raw materials for various detergents that are said to be effective in inactivating influenza, and disinfectants that are actually used in hospitals. Agents, commercial hand soaps used at home, etc.

Looking at commercial products, alcohol-based disinfectants can completely disinfect 50 new coronaviruses if they have an alcohol concentration of 30,000% or more, and hand soaps, kitchen detergents, etc. can also be used according to the product usage. It has been found that it can be used to completely disinfect the new coronavirus. On the other hand, chlorine dioxide-based and hypochlorous acid-based products were tested after confirming that there was no deterioration of the products, but 30,000 new coronaviruses could not be completely disinfected. In addition, some products used in the medical field have insufficient inactivating effect, and it seems that it is necessary to review the disinfection method for medical equipment.

The research results can be expected to serve as a guideline for suppressing infection with the new coronavirus in medical settings and daily life, and for surely implementing infection control. This study was published in the specialized magazine "Infection Control and Preventive Hygiene (Medical Review)".
