A research group led by Professor Seiji Okada of Kumamoto University and Dr. Ryusho Kariya (specially appointed assistant professor) has developed a simple biological tissue transplant needle kit that does not cause pain to mice in collaboration with Cuor Co., Ltd. and Kyushu Organ Needle Co., Ltd. , I applied for a patent / design.

Currently, one in two Japanese people will get some kind of cancer in their lifetime, and one in three will die of cancer. In order to save cancer patients, it is important to analyze the pathology of cancer and develop new treatment methods, and for that purpose, it is essential to establish an animal model that faithfully reproduces the pathology of cancer patients.

It is desirable to establish an animal model by a simple method that does not cause pain to the animal as much as possible. In recent years, a patient tumor tissue transplantation (PDX) model created by directly transplanting surgically removed human tumor tissue into highly immunodeficient mice has been developed, and it is expected that the success rate of anticancer drug development will increase. There is.However, to establish the PDX model, an incision is made in the skin of an anesthetized mouse with dissecting scissors, a human tumor tissue mass is subcutaneously transplanted with tweezers, and then the incision site is adhered with sutures or clips. The incision in the skin causes great pain to the mice.

This time, the research group has developed a living tissue transplant needle kit "Ez-Plant" suitable for PDX tumor tissue transplantation.A graft filling port was provided on the side surface of the transplant needle. After filling the human tumor tissue mass from here, subcutaneous transplantation is performed by inserting a transplant needle subcutaneously and pushing the tumor mass subcutaneously into the mouse. With this transplant needle, only very small holes are made in the skin of the mouse, so it does not cause long-term pain to the mouse.

The developed living tissue transplant needle kit streamlines the establishment of a PDX model that will be used in the development of anticancer drugs in the future and does not cause pain to mice, contributing not only to the prognosis of human cancer patients but also to animal protection. Expected to do.
