Message to high school students

　My high school was an old high school that took over liberal arts education.There were many unique teachers who had a free and academic spirit and had the feeling of "let's convey their studies."In such an atmosphere, I thought it would be interesting to continue academic things in the future.When I was in high school, I was interested in mathematics and physics.However, I hadn't decided exactly what to study in the future, and I thought about it after I entered university.

　Having spent many years as a researcher, I find research very interesting and I want many people to share the fun of it.Creating new things is challenging.Instead of imitating or chasing people, I want you to challenge yourself.Especially at the University of Tokyo, there are many excellent people who can do that.Academics and research are exciting experiences of creating new things and discovering new things by looking at existing things from different angles.The University of Tokyo has a huge stock of knowledge to taste it, and a place to sit down and think and discuss.I hope that young and motivated people will experience the excitement and spread it all over the world.
