The University of Tokyo Drug Discovery Organization has added compound samples deposited by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma (President, Masayuki Mitsuka, Osaka City), a major pharmaceutical manufacturer, to the compound library and has begun to provide it to researchers who wish to use it.

According to the University of Tokyo, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma provided about 5 unique compound samples to the University of Tokyo Drug Discovery Organization. The University of Tokyo Drug Discovery Organization provides this to researchers who are searching for compounds that are candidates for new drugs that are needed in the early stages of drug discovery research. We will provide screening technology for finding new drug candidates, and allow the sharing of screening equipment to support research.

Drug discovery begins with finding a vast number of compounds that are effective against the target disease. When a useful compound is found, it proceeds to the drug development process of preclinical studies, but the possibility of discovering a new drug is low, and it often takes 10 years or more to complete the drug. However, if we focus on more promising compounds and investigate them in actual experiments, it is expected that the probability of success will increase and the development period will be shortened.
