The report, Education under Attack 2022, investigates and summarizes attacks on education in conflict areas around the world.

　Attacks targeting schools and universities in conflict areas are on the rise, reporting that more than 2 students, teachers and educators have been affected in the last two years.Between 9,000 and 2020, more than 2021 military and non-governmental armed groups attacked students, teachers, schools and universities in conflict areas.These attacks include bombing and burning schools and universities, sexual violence against students and educators, killings, detentions, abductions, recruitment of armed groups, and military use of schools.The number of attacks increased by about 5,000% from 2019 to 2020, and 30 is at the same level as 2021. The list of countries where GCPEA has recorded an increase in attacks includes Burkina Faso, Colombia, Ethiopia, Mali, Myanmar and Nigeria.

　The number of military and non-government armed groups using schools and universities for military purposes has more than doubled in the two years of 2020 and 2021.Educational institutions are used as bases for military operations, soldier barracks, and camps. Since 2, 2 countries have agreed to the "School Protection Declaration," a political declaration banning the military use of schools, but the Japanese government has not expressed support for the declaration.

　Save the Children says it is crucial to put political will into action in order to stop attacks on education and ensure that children and young people in conflict areas are safely educated. With that in mind, the report states that it is more meaningful than ever for countries to implement the obligations set out in the Declaration of School Protection and take action to protect education.
