Kinki University Faculty of Science and Engineering has introduced a "Virtual Teaching Assistant" that utilizes AI (artificial intelligence) technology in the lecture of the specialized subject "Information Media Project II" in the Department of Informatics.Answer questions from students 24 hours a day, not just during lectures.
According to Kinki University, the virtual teaching assistant uses IBM's AI Watson's natural language processing technology and is equipped with an AI inquiry response service developed by JIEC. It appears in the lecture of "Information Media Project II" that started every Wednesday from September, and responds to questions from students.
In information media-related classes, it takes a lot of time to respond to questions from students, and in practical training where it is essential to solve questions on the spot, many similar questions are asked at the same time, and instructors and teachers Often, human assistants couldn't handle it.
With the introduction of the virtual teaching assistant, not only will students' questions be answered on the spot, but the burden on the instructor will be greatly reduced.Since the history of questions and answers is recorded and visualized, the instructor can easily grasp the degree of understanding of the student. Since it is available 24 hours a day, it can also be used for class preparation and review.
In addition, by utilizing the virtual teaching assistant, instructors and students can actually experience communication using AI and acquire know-how to improve the quality of communication.
