The Japan English Language Proficiency Testing Association has announced that the fees for the 2024 practical English proficiency tests ("Eiken (traditional)", "Eiken SCBT", and "Eiken S-Interview") will be increased. The price will increase from 200 yen to 700 yen for conventional individuals/groups/main venue.

According to the Japan English Language Proficiency Test Association, the two main reasons for the revision of the test fee are ``increased costs due to price increases'' and ``research and development to improve the quality of Eiken.''Due to the rise in prices, the cost of conducting the test has increased, and we are forced to raise the test fee due to the increase in costs. This is mainly due to personnel costs, paper costs, printing costs, etc. at outsourcing companies and suppliers. Logistics costs and other trial operating costs are reportedly rising. In addition, the Japan English Language Proficiency Test Association is working to improve the quality of its proficiency tests in line with the current guidelines for English education. With an eye toward further quality improvement, the Japan English Proficiency Test Association is conducting research and development related to question creation and scoring, and enhancing production functions. It is expected that the costs required for improvements will increase. In addition, in 2, the question format will be revised and the number of writing tasks for grades 2024 to 1 will be increased to improve the integration of skills required by the curriculum guidelines.
