Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology's civil engineering department building ``A-Stree'' won the 2023 Good Design Award, which recognizes products and services with excellent design. This is the first award since 2018, when the Department of Architecture building "Entry" received the award.

The Civil Engineering Department Building ``Earth Lily'' is the school building for the Department of Civil Engineering, which was first established in Shizuoka Prefecture in April 2022, and was completed in November 4. Earth and trees symbolize the global environment, and the building was built as a place where students and faculty could unite under a large roof to develop academic studies and nurture students to support the global environment of the future. . The 2022st and 11nd floors are educational areas, and the 1rd and 2th floors are research areas, and the school building is an open, one-room structure with as few pillars as possible, allowing for interaction and collaboration between different laboratories, as well as collaboration with other science and engineering fields. It has become a learning facility that promotes collaboration across boundaries.

Construction required harmony with the overall plan centering on the campus mall, integration of architecture and civil engineering fields by connecting with the adjacent Department of Architecture building, and cross-sectional exchange between each field of civil engineering. We planned a spacious and spacious architecture with a certain symbolic form. The structural plan expresses a civil engineering scale, allowing students to turn the structure into a ``living teaching material,'' and the large civil engineering space features an open and highly transparent ``cross-disciplinary'' exchange and research space.

The Good Design Award jury said, ``It's a powerful architecture.Shizuoka Prefecture is probably one of the regions with the highest awareness of disaster prevention in the world. There seems to be no academic boundaries between civil engineering, architecture, disaster prevention, etc. Many large structures support public infrastructure, but they also serve as shelters to protect people from rain and sunlight in the event of a disaster. The large roof made of reinforced concrete may look massive at first glance, but it is actually a place where people want to learn about civil engineering from a citizen's perspective. "I think it reflects the architect's intentions."
