Waseda University will begin providing a data science education scheme to Tokyo Women's University from 2024. The aim is to develop human resources in data science, for whom there is a growing need in society, and a new system will be established at Tokyo Women's University to certify the data science knowledge and skills of students from other universities.
According to Waseda University, the program will provide content for eight subjects from the ``Waseda University Data Science Education Program,'' as well as learning support from the Waseda University Data Science Learning Assistant. Classes will be held on-demand. Approximately 8 students will be eligible each year, and certificates will be issued to students who meet the criteria. Operation and credit recognition will be handled by Tokyo Women's University.
Waseda University has previously established a data science certification system for internal students and certified students who meet the standards, but a new certification system will also be established to include students from other universities.
There continues to be a shortage of data scientists in the IT industry who carry out data analysis, and the need is expected to remain high for some time. There is also a strong demand from industry for universities to provide training, leading to a rush to establish new faculties studying data science across the country.
