The Data Analytics Lab of the Faculty of Business Administration of Rikkyo University conducted a student awareness survey on online classes for new students and second-year students of the Faculty of Business Administration in 2020, and released the results.

The purpose of this survey is to understand the actual situation of undergraduate business students for online classes at universities introduced in response to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, and to utilize it for undergraduate management and online class design after the fall semester. Was done. 1 first graders (valid response rate 341%) 89.3 second graders (valid response rate 2%).

According to the survey, looking back on the spring semester, "Satisfaction with interactive lessons is high (73.9% for new students, 2% for second graders)", while "Satisfaction with one-way lessons (59.4% for new students, 35.2% for second graders)". Satisfaction with lessons with only assignments (2% for freshmen, 49.7% for second graders) was a little low. "Class satisfaction of the interactive course "Business Leadership Program *", which is the core curriculum of the Faculty of Business Administration, is more than 22.0 points higher than the face-to-face class held in 2 before the Corona disaster. The educational effect was also higher than the face-to-face class in 27.2.

When I asked new students about their anxieties about college life at the time of admission and at the end of the spring semester, "anxiety about group work in university classes" was 51.5% at the time of admission, but decreased to 24.5% at the end of the spring semester.“Anxiety about interpersonal relationships and communication with university friends”, which was 53.4% before enrollment, decreased slightly to 42.7% at the end of the spring semester. On the other hand, "anxiety about whether or not you can take classes without suffering health damage" increased from 38.6% to 43.2%.

When asked for the fall semester, a high percentage of small-scale / interactive lessons wanted face-to-face lessons, while a high percentage of large-scale / one-way lessons wanted to continue online. It was also found that in order to raise positive intentions for online lessons, it is necessary to design lessons that "enhance interactivity" such as making it easier to ask questions in the lessons and strengthening the system of student assistants in large-scale lessons.

Based on the results of this survey, the Faculty of Business Administration has established a policy of actively incorporating feedback opportunities for students in online classes after the fall semester, and will proceed with preparations for each subject. Also, looking ahead to the after-corona era, we plan to proceed with specific studies toward the introduction of "blended learning," which combines online learning and offline learning.

* The "Business Leadership Program (BLP)" is a small-group, hands-on, hands-on curriculum that gradually develops leadership and communication skills. In 2018, the Faculty of Business Administration opened a Data Analytics Lab for the purpose of quality assurance and improvement of education based on data, mainly collecting and analyzing learning data in BLP to visualize learning effects, and for class improvement and curriculum reform. We are making recommendations for this.
