Waseda University Ikuo Hirayama Memorial Volunteer Center and Roots Sports Japan will hold the annual charity running event "Waseda Ekiden" in a remote format. The event will be held from February 2021th to March 2th, 27, and entry will start from the end of January.

"Waseda Ekiden" is a charity running event that started in 2011 with the aim of supporting reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and is the 2021th in 10.It was held at stadiums in Tokyo every year, but in 2021 it will be held in a "remote format" using a smartphone app to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections.Due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, a "new lifestyle" that avoids direct contact between people, such as social distanceing, is now required, so the importance of people-to-people connections is important. We decided to hold the event in a remote format, hoping that it would be an opportunity to feel and deepen the "bond" with our friends.

The running app "ASICS Runkeeper (TM)" is used for time measurement. Up to 1 to 2 people can be registered per team, and a total of 5km of 5km x 5 sections will be run. Anyone over the age of 25 who can use the smartphone app can participate regardless of nationality, gender, running experience, etc.Participants will start the app by themselves within the holding period, run a set distance at their favorite place such as near their home, and connect "digital tasuki" as a team to aim for the goal.

Until now, the venue of "Waseda Ekiden" was in Tokyo, so it was difficult for people outside of Tokyo to participate, but by adopting this format, Waseda is not only in Japan but all over the world. "Everyone" such as university students, alumni, OGs, people concerned, acquaintances and friends can be connected in one project.

The events are "Ekiden (400 groups)" and "Individual run (10 people)" running 300km.Participation fee is 5,000 yen / group for Ekiden, 1,000 yen / person for individual run.Part of the participation fee will be donated to the Waseda University Ikuo Hirayama Memorial Volunteer Center (WAVOC) and will be used for continuous support activities in various parts of Japan, including reconstruction support for the Great East Japan Earthquake.

From the end of January 2021 of "Waseda Ekiden"Official websiteWe plan to accept entries at.However, the entry start time may change depending on the infection status of the new coronavirus and social conditions.
