Yokohama City University will start the "Yokoichi Unoccupied House Utilization Project" in collaboration with Keihin Electric Express Railway Co., Ltd. and Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama City.The purpose is to make effective use of vacant lots in Kanazawa Ward, provide attractive housing for young people, and promote future settlement.
This project will be promoted through industry-government-academia collaboration based on the "Yokohama City Vacant House Countermeasure Plan" formulated by the Housing and Architecture Bureau of Yokohama City under the "Environmental Future City Yokohama" Kanazawa Hachikoku Agreement "".Kanazawa Ward is an area in Yokohama where the declining birthrate and aging population and the declining population are remarkable, and vacant houses are an issue.Students in the third year of the International Urban Studies Course, Faculty of Global Sciences, will implement this project as a practical lesson in collaboration with the Keikyu Electric Railway Group and Kanazawa Ward.
On June 6, the students listened to explanations from Kanazawa Ward staff and local residents, and surveyed vacant houses and usage needs by walking around the town. On July 7th, we will give a presentation on the plans and proposals for the housing that we would like to live in.Based on this, Keihin Electric Express Railway will take on the role of approaching the owners of vacant houses, holding counseling sessions, and renovating.After that, students will actually move in and participate in community activities as local residents.
Yokohama City University is implementing a "teacher community contribution activity support project" to solve regional issues in collaboration with companies, local governments, and NPOs in order to utilize the research results of teachers. In 2016, 16 projects including "Yokoichi Unoccupied House Utilization Project" are scheduled to be carried out.
