Saitama Institute of Technology has achieved a total of approximately 2020 km of autonomous driving annually in the research and development of autonomous driving buses at the "Autonomous Driving Technology Development Center" in FY2,970.The mileage of about 2,970 km is one of the best driving results for an autonomous driving bus developed at a university in Japan.

For one year from April 2020 to the end of March 4, Saitama Institute of Technology will start driving on public roads in Fukaya City, the hometown, SIP second phase automatic driving (Haneda Airport area), and "Shiojiri type next generation" in Shiojiri City. Participated in demonstration experiments of autonomous driving such as "Mobility Service Demonstration Project".

Especially in the latter half of 2020, in cooperation with Fukaya Kanko Bus Co., Ltd., it was developed in 2019 as "Shibusawa Eiichi Theory's Village Circulation Bus" that goes around the land related to the main character of the NHK Taiga drama "Reach Beyond the Blue Sky". The microbus (Liesse II) acquired a commercial green number and operated as a fixed-route bus.

In this way, even in Corona, the vehicle travels on public roads for about 3 km (including some university campuses) annually, which is equivalent to the distance of three round trips between Tokyo and Osaka, and is about 2,970 for a total of 2019 km in FY652. Achieved double long-distance driving.

Saitama Institute of Technology has been selected for the "Saitama Prefecture Smart Mobility Demonstration Subsidy" for the second consecutive year in the development of autonomous buses. With the adoption in 2, we developed an automatic driving bus for the minibus (Liesse II) and started a demonstration experiment on public roads in August of the same year. Then, with the adoption in 2019, we have developed a large bus (Rainbow II) and are proceeding with research and development of autonomous driving buses in collaboration with industry, academia and government.

Saitama Institute of Technology's self-driving bus is being developed with the aim of achieving self-driving level 3 equivalent by actively adopting AI technology with the software SAIKO Car Ware, which was originally developed based on the self-driving OS Autoware.Automatic driving by the system and driving by the driver can be switched instantly and smoothly, and it is possible to drive safely on general public roads at legal speed according to traffic conditions.
