Waseda University has decided to accept a pre-training camp for refugee teams participating in the Tokyo Olympics.Waseda University will provide a part of the Waseda Campus in Nishiwaseda, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo and the Toyama Campus in Toyama, Shinjuku-ku for pre-training camps for refugee teams.
According to Waseda University, the refugee team consists of athletes who have escaped the civil war and persecution of their homeland and have become refugees.He was selected from among the athletes who have been recognized as refugees by the United Nations and have been trained in the host country with a scholarship from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for reaching a certain level of competition.
The IOC has sent a team of athletes from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and Iranian Kimia Alizadeh won the bronze medal in the women's taekwondo.At the Tokyo Olympics, 11 people from 29 countries such as Syria, Iran and South Sudan will participate in 12 events such as land, judo, taekwondo, badminton and weightlifting.
This is the first time a refugee team has held a pre-training camp at the venue of the Olympics.From July 7th to August 14th (scheduled), the refugee team will make final adjustments at Waseda University's Waseda and Toyama campuses and at Kawaguchi City Aokicho Park General Sports Ground in Nishiaoki, Saitama Prefecture.
