An internal audit for 2017 was conducted at Chiba University from September 9th to 27th.There are 29 auditors, including 3 students and faculty members who belong to the "Environmental ISO Student Committee".A major feature is that students are actively involved.
Chiba University has acquired the international standards ISO14001 and ISO50001 for the environment and energy. We aim to operate an organization that considers the environment and works on more efficient energy use. The Chiba University Environmental ISO Student Committee, which was established in 2003, is said to be proactively contributing to the construction and operation of the environmental management system that is the mechanism.
In internal audits, student auditors conduct interviews and on-site confirmations at 132 laboratories. We audited the implementation status of energy-saving resource-saving measures and the status of compliance with environment-related laws and regulations. The Environmental ISO Student Committee is also subject to auditing, and students experience both the auditing side and the auditing side.
Chiba University sees the operation of an environmental management system as an educational opportunity for students. In addition to conducting audits on an equal footing with faculty and staff on the day of the audit, the person in charge of internal audits of the Student Committee prepares drafts of internal audit plans, audit check sheets, and audit reports, and conducts research subject to internal audits. It even selects rooms and creates shifts for student auditors. Some of these students said, "It was a valuable opportunity to hear ideas from various perspectives," and "it was a great experience that was useful for the future because of many discoveries and learnings."
