The National Institute of Science and Technology Policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has selected 10 researchers, including Kaori Sugihara of the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, who have made outstanding achievements in various fields of science and technology innovation, as Nice Step Researchers 2022.
According to the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy, the selection is based on information obtained from a survey of a network of approximately 1,700 experts. With a view to innovation, international research activities, and the development of industry-academia collaboration, an in-house screening committee narrowed down the candidates to 250.
In addition to Mr. Sugihara, the following nine people were selected.
Taisuke Oshima, CEO of Nature Architect; Tallin Kalanuwat, Senior Research Scientist, Google Research Brain Team; Tatsuya Kubota, Researcher, National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention; Anna Suzuki, Associate Professor, Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University; Yuji Tsugawa, Associate Professor, Institute of Global Innovation Research, Tomomi Nakagawa, Researcher, Institute of Anthropology, Nanzan University, Hiroki Nakahara, Associate Professor, School of Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Shinichi Furuya, Senior Researcher, Sony Computer Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Shinya Yoshida of the Department of Engineering
