Tohoku University is participating in the new project for employment of postdoctoral fellows launched by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2023. We decided to work on improving treatment, such as raising the salary of postdoctoral fellows by 22.7%.
According to Tohoku University, postdoctoral fellows have traditionally been paid 1 yen per month in the form of research incentives.In the new project of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, 36 million yen per month will be paid as employer contributions such as various allowances and social insurance premiums. The main contribution will be added to the remuneration of postdoctoral fellows.As a result, the total annual remuneration for postdoctoral fellows will be raised from the previous 2,000 million yen to 100 million yen, which is about the same as an assistant professor hired immediately after completing a doctoral course.

In April 2021, Tohoku University declared the “Tohoku University Young Researcher Leap Forward Initiative” as a university where young researchers are making rapid progress.We have formulated a "comprehensive support package for young researchers to advance their careers" with a total annual scale of 4 billion yen. .
