The laboratory of Professor Masami Goto (seismic engineering) of the Faculty of Architecture, Kanazawa Institute of Technology and Japan Dome House Co., Ltd. jointly research and develop agricultural dome. The dome is resilient to natural disasters and is expected to contribute to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) set by the United Nations.
Goto Laboratory has been working with Japan Dome House Co., Ltd. for many years on research and development of dome-shaped houses using functional durable resin as a new material.Styrofoam (EPS) is used as a material, which is used for food trays and also has strength such as being used as a cushioning material for electrical appliances. In Japan, only wood, iron, and concrete are conventionally accepted as structural materials, but the developed agricultural dome ensures strength and hardness as a building structural material, and special processing such as flame-retardant processing and UV cut coating is applied. By applying it, it was the first in Japan to be certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a "dome-shaped building using expanded polystyrene as a structural material" and commercialized.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism have recognized that "no building confirmation application is required" and can be treated as equivalent to a vinyl house. In addition, the entire wall thickness of 20 cm is made of heat insulating material, which has high airtightness and heat insulating properties and is extremely energy-saving.Therefore, even in an environment where natural disasters occur frequently and the weather conditions change rapidly, it is easy to maintain the internal temperature and humidity, and damage caused by pests and vermin can be prevented. With resilience, this agricultural dome is set forth in the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that all UN member states aim to achieve, "In all countries, resilience to climate-related disasters and natural disasters. It is expected that it can also contribute to "strengthening adaptability".
