Participating high school is now

Isaka: I participated for the first time.I heard that a sense of management is important for national universities, and that Kyoto University is accelerating cooperation with overseas. Our school also goes on to your school, though it is a small number every year.Unlike the high school we participated in today, our school is still a little over 50 years old.It was once designated as SSH, and now more than one in three active students is enrolled in a national public university. As part of school reform, he has been focusing on improving English lessons and global education for the past few years.Throughout the year, debates are introduced in the classes, and in addition to overseas study trips, about 3 students are sent to UCLA to conduct programs locally and have discussions with university students. The ability of English, global experience and way of thinking are positioned as the foundational ability that is not bound by the humanities and sciences. This is an initiative that has just begun, and today I would like to hear various stories and take it home.

Takaoka: About two weeks ago, I had two graduates dispatched from Kyoto University's high school girl support project "High School Girl Support Ambassador".I am grateful to the staff for visiting the school and giving a polite explanation.I'm glad to hear from the graduates that "going from Saitama to Kyoto and learning isn't that difficult, and I'm having a good life." About 70 people participated in the first and second years, and they were all very inspired.

Yamagiwa:thank you.Currently, the ratio of female students at Kyoto University is 22%.I would like to raise it to 30% if possible.

(I.e.: Served as principal for XNUMX years in Urawa, took a year off and returned to his mother's school as principal. The number of students going to Kyoto University is increasing in Musashi, and the number of third-year students may increase.Of course, I would like the University of Tokyo to increase, but as our school, whose motto is a free school spirit, we would like to respect each individual's intentions rather than becoming the University of Tokyo's supreme principle.
From the president's talk, he further strengthened the recognition that globalization is an unavoidable era.I think it will be very important for everyone, not just some students, to experience overseas more or less during the sensitive period of teenagers.Looking ahead to Japan and the world in the future, we will have high aspirations and motivate learning by connecting ourselves and the world.Today's high school students who grew up in a prosperous society lack hungry compared to other Asian high school students, but 10% of the students change when they come into contact with the outside world. On top of that, I would like to give various options, including going directly to overseas universities.

Takeuchi: During the summer vacation, we will travel to Boston and New York to visit the Aspen Institute to give presentations in front of food problem experts, and to receive training at cutting-edge global companies in Silicon Valley and the Big Island of Hawaii. , Increasing contact points with overseas. We also interact with sister schools in New Zealand and South Korea. The students who participated will be more motivated and will change their attitude toward learning, but they are looking for ways to raise the same awareness in their daily classes. It is not a proactive and deep learning through the dialogue that the country says, but it is to raise intellectual inquiry and motivation through lessons that allow students to come up with new discoveries and discoveries by sharing their ideas.

Morikami: It is often pointed out that girls are more motivated to learn, but how about Sakurakage?

Saito: Rather than going directly to an overseas university, we will drop out of high school with a scholarship such as UWC (United World College), go to a high school such as Costa Rica or Hong Kong, and aim for an overseas university from there. There are many patterns. In more enthusiastic families, they sometimes sent them to boarding schools in Switzerland and England when they went to high school.Perhaps because it is a girl, it may be uneasy for both parents and children to suddenly go to an overseas university. On the other hand, there is also a conservative group who is not very interested in foreign countries and goes to school at home as much as possible except for the medical school. In the former, there are many families whose parents have experienced overseas universities, and in the latter, there are many families who think that they are qualification-oriented and "so medical school", as they have in the past. ..Two to three students are enrolled in Kyoto every year.

Yamagiwa: This year, we built a new women's dormitory. It's beautiful and luxurious, so be sure to check it out.

Morikami: At Toshimaoka Girls'Academy because it's the same girls' school?

Takehana: The trends are similar. It is hotter than the students themselves, as many parents gather when holding seminars for going on to overseas universities. However, although information is procured, many families think about studying abroad after going to university. In partnership with overseas, in addition to studying abroad for three months at a partner school in New Zealand, we started training in Boston last year.In Boston, it seems that I was very inspired by the passionate efforts of university students and female researchers.Current students and graduates with overseas experience may share their own experiences, but there is also a way to go with a scholarship after enrolling in a university and passing the exams for study abroad that are being recruited in large numbers. The information from the graduates that there is seems to be fresh. There may be more choices to ask for a chance after entering university.

Yamagiwa: It is true that the monthly fee of American universities is high, but as I mentioned earlier, if you have a student exchange agreement due to non-collection of tuition fees, you can go with the tuition fees of domestic universities.

Usaki: Students who go on to Japanese universities have relatively fixed aspirations. On the other hand, students who are aiming for an overseas university have the image of a place where they can freely expand their learning to the university. In the first place, we emphasize learning motivation at the middle and high school stages, not just learning for a specific purpose, so even if some students are concerned about how much they can study freely at university. No wonder.Unfortunately, the flexibility of Japanese universities has not yet been fully communicated to students.Regarding Kyoto University, there are examples such as "Omoro Challenge" (detailed in Nos. 122 and 128), but it cannot be said that the image of a free academic style has firmly penetrated. If we can put ourselves in the academic city of Kyoto and have a stronger image of being able to expand our learning freely, I think more students will sit down and think about doing it in Japan. ..

Yamagiwa: I hear that the qualities of high school students are polarized. While some students are too close to choosing a career path, more and more students decide what they want to do early on and choose an undergraduate school.Even at university, there are many students who do not know what they want to learn, so first they show a lot of course trees so that they can decide what they want to do, and some faculties have teachers and mentors to handle them. There are such students not only in the Faculty of Comprehensive Human Sciences, but also in the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture, which are selected by the desired department, and we are dealing with them by setting up multiple academic advisors for graduation research, but this is a troublesome problem. In the first place, the university is a place where you spend a sensitive time around the age of 20, so it may be unavoidable to change your course in response to various stimuli.

The two former top executives of a large alumnus company that I met today were both diversions.I think that the teachers also have a hard time whether to decide on their future hopes before going on to higher education, or whether to suggest that it is better to hunt various academic fields first.

Morikami: In terms of career choices, I think that going on to medical school is a big theme for the school you are gathering today, but at Toyama High School?

Alms: Four years ago, when I was Professor Ohno, I have been working on what is called "Team Medical (TM)" to support students who want to go on to medical school. However, instead of being treated specially in the form of a special advance class, applicants usually take classes in their own class and gather after school, on Saturday afternoons, during summer vacation, etc.In addition to having in-service doctors come and talk about their work, they also go to metropolitan hospitals, university medical schools, and medical research institutes during summer vacation to not only tour but also practice such as touching medical equipment. In the career education part, we will pursue the aptitude for a doctor and the purpose of becoming a doctor, and deepen our thoughts on what we should do now.The number of girls is increasing year by year, and this year it is over 4%.Doctors are a very attractive profession for girls, so the number of aspirants did not decrease due to the turmoil last year, and the results are reasonable, and I think they will increase in the future.

Yamagiwa: Now, doctors are not the only ones engaged in medical care.I have been collaborating with medical engineers for XNUMX years at the leading graduate school, but the engineering students go to the anatomy training of the medical school, touch the human body, and learn the mechanism of the body from the teacher of the medical school. I am thinking about various medical devices. Since it is becoming possible to make diagnoses using AI, mathematical knowledge is also required.I feel that comprehensive medicine will be needed in the future.

Alms: Through practical training, some people have noticed that they are involved in medical research even if they do not have a doctor's license, and instead of giving up on doctors, they are positively changing their course to other fields.

Yamagiwa: People from various fields are gathering at the iPS Cell Research Institute, and they are thinking about how to use each.Since the government has invested a considerable amount of money in supporting us, I hope that in the future, we will be able to produce results that will lead to various inventions, discoveries, and large industries.
