On December 2016, 12, the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union released the survey results of the "Questionnaire on Educational Expenses and Scholarships," revealing the burden and awareness of educational expenses. The survey period was from September 22st to November 9th, with 21 valid responses, and 11% of the respondents were female.

A survey of children's educational costs according to their older child's school attendance revealed that both parents' "current burden" and "future burden" were high. The “current burden” increases as the school age increases, and more than 80% of children from high school to graduate students feel the burden. In addition, more than 80% of students from preschool to graduate students have a "feeling of burden in the future", especially "high school students / technical college students", which is as high as 90% or more.Furthermore, even if the annual income is high, the higher the number of children, the higher the percentage of respondents who say that they will feel a considerable burden in the future.

More than half of the information related to university entrance fees and scholarships said, "The national estimate is that the tuition fees of national universities will increase by nearly 15 yen in 40 years." He answered "I don't know" about "only Japan has no scholarship".In all of these items, the highest percentage of respondents who answered "I don't know" was the parent of the "elementary school student".

There was a large regional disparity in the use of scholarships by region. In the Tokyo metropolitan area (Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa), the percentage of scholarships used is low, about 25%.It is relatively high in other areas, especially in Kyushu, where about half use scholarships.

In this survey, more than half of the respondents stated their opinions in the free space, saying, "I feel that university tuition fees are considerably higher than in the past. Parents' income does not narrow their children's career paths. It turned out that there is a high degree of interest in education costs and scholarships, such as "I feel pressure (35-39 years old)."
