The work "Su Knee-Persons with Disabilities" by Mr. Son Kogun, a doctoral student in the Department of Intelligent Machinery and Information Science, Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, the University of Tokyo, Fumihito Sugai, a specially appointed assistant professor in the Department of Creative Informatics, and Shoichi Sato, a researcher at the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo. "Robot prosthesis that enhances mobility" was announced on September 3 at the James Dyson Award 9, an international engineering award hosted by the James Dyson Foundation on September 8.
Most of the existing prostheses do not have power, and the knee joint cannot be flexed and stretched autonomously.Mr. Son, who is also a user himself, was dissatisfied with the difficulty of going up and down stairs and getting up from a chair.Therefore, by utilizing robot technology, we independently developed and installed an actuator that imitates muscles, and gave it its own power by controlling it according to walking.
This work has passed the domestic screening (one of the five works), and the works that have passed the domestic screening in the 5 participating countries will proceed to the second screening, and the selected works will be the founders of Dyson. The international final examination by Mr. James Dyson will proceed, and the international best award will be decided on October 23th.
