The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the new R & D center used by Waseda University as an industry-academia collaboration base was at the Waseda Campus in Waseda Tsurumaki-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.The new center is scheduled to be completed in April 1, and will serve as a base for interdisciplinary research in addition to industry-academia collaborative research.
According to Waseda University, the construction site is the site of Buildings 120-2, 3 and 4.At the groundbreaking ceremony, President Kaoru Kamata and other university and construction personnel attended, and President Kamata added.
The new center is a part of reinforced concrete standing on a site of 7,930 square meters, with 2 basement floors and 6 floors above ground, totaling about 1 square meters.It is about 8,600 meters high and is built with a seismic isolation structure.In addition to university laboratories, there will be an industry-academia collaborative research promotion base that develops large-scale consortiums with companies.
In addition to having the function of advancing cutting-edge demonstration experiments, a showroom will be set up on the first floor to externally appeal the technologies and results created by the research.In the future, we will develop interdisciplinary research that goes beyond the humanities / social sciences and science and engineering departments. The facility will be expanded after the second phase of construction, and the total floor area will be about 1 square meters in the end.
Waseda University has set out to strengthen its original research and international dissemination capabilities in its medium- to long-term plan, "Waseda Vision 150."In order to achieve this, we decided to build a new center because it is essential to strengthen the research organization and support system, as well as to improve and expand the research facilities.
