Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), undergraduate computer science department, started the "8+3 Study Abroad Program" from the fall semester, which started at the end of August.Students can obtain a degree by completing the first three years at TUJ and the remaining one year at the main school in Philadelphia, USA.As the importance of computer science continues to grow, we will provide opportunities for more students to study computer science in English at TUJ.

The "3+1 Study Abroad Program" is a transition from the conventional "2+2 Study Abroad Program" (studying on campuses in Japan and the United States for two years each), making it easier for students in Japan to learn computer science more efficiently.According to Vice President Yasuko Taoka, many of TUJ's students, about 2% of whom are foreign nationals, mostly from the United States, want to complete all their courses in Japan, and computer science students are no exception. With the establishment of the 6+3 study abroad program, he is said to be one step closer to that goal.

By combining it with the "Fly to Philly Program*" that started in May 2022, the burden of studying abroad at the main school in the United States will be greatly reduced. In addition, if you want to take two years at each campus and obtain a degree, you can continue to select the "5 + 2 Study Abroad Program".

In the "3+1 study abroad program", students learn a wide range of fields such as algorithms, software engineering, computer architecture, programming languages, data structures, operating systems, networks, artificial intelligence, and image processing. TUJ also plans to increase the number of faculty members in the computer science department, and will continue to recruit excellent faculty members to foster the next generation of programmers, engineers, and IT professionals.

*The Fly to Philly Program is a program in which TUJ campus tuition fees are applied for up to one year when TUJ students study at the main campus in Philadelphia.Since the tuition fees for out-of-state students at the US main school are higher than TUJ tuition, using this program will greatly reduce the burden of studying abroad at the US main school. You can start from any of the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
