Hosei University Graduate School of Urban Air Mobility Research Institute (HUAM)*, Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co., Ltd., and MS&AD InterRisk Research & Consulting Co., Ltd. have announced that on September 2023, 9, they will work towards the social implementation of urban air mobility such as flying cars. A joint research agreement was signed.

Flying cars are targeted for social implementation in Japan in 2025, and by 2035, the market size of flying cars itself will be approximately 920 billion yen in the Osaka Kansai area alone, and the associated economic ripple effect will be approximately 1,530 billion yen. It is expected that a new ecosystem will be created by flying cars (quoted from the Osaka Roundtable Materials for Social Implementation of the Air Mobility Revolution). On the other hand, before flying cars become widespread, there are still issues that need to be resolved, such as risk assessment of the aircraft and take-off and landing sites, and verification of local community acceptability.

Against this backdrop, HUAM is working to develop next-generation aviation personnel, Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance is working to provide new value that customers, local communities, and society truly desire, and the advancement and scope of risk management using digital data. Three parties from MS&AD InterRisk Research Institute, which is working on expansion, have decided to conduct joint research to popularize flying cars.

In building a mobility service that utilizes flying cars, it is important to collaborate not only with flying cars but also with ground mobility such as trains and cars.Toward this kind of "seamless MaaS between air and land," we aim to create all the air and land travel processes that flying car users travel through (from departure point to takeoff and landing point, point-to-point flights including land and sea, and takeoff and landing points). We conduct comprehensive risk assessments that include environmental assessments for local governments (e.g., surveys of the impact of noise etc. on the surrounding environment of takeoff and landing sites, etc.) and We will conduct joint research aimed at developing insurance and services related to the entire MaaS business linked to mobility services. We will also consider analyzing flight data using domestically produced flying cars (research on preventing battery performance deterioration, improving fuel efficiency, etc.) and applying research results to Hosei University's educational curriculum for the next generation of aviation personnel.

In the joint research, HUAM will provide expert knowledge on next-generation air mobility (including support for the formulation of environmental assessments), conduct flight experiments using experimental aircraft, provide flight data, and provide information on flight routes, weather, etc. Responsible for research on the risks posed to people.Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance will oversee the entire operation, and by combining the characteristics and strengths of the three parties, we will create new industries using flying cars (air logistics business, air taxi business, regional tourism business, etc.) and solve social issues. We aim to contribute to solutions (carbon neutrality, alleviating traffic congestion, improving mobility convenience, etc.).
