Lecturer Hideki Sato from the Department of Contemporary Sociology, Faculty of Sociology, Edogawa University was invited to Khulna University in Khulna, Bangladesh on September 2023, 9 (local time) to give a special lecture on environmental education in Japan. .On the day, 10 students belonging to Life Science school of Khulna University participated.
Lecturer Sato gave an overview of the background and history of environmental problems in Japan, and the role of environmental education in solving environmental problems. The role was explained in English.He also introduced specific efforts and approaches to environmental education in Japan, as well as the contents of environmental fieldwork at Edogawa University.
Lecturer Sato specializes in environmental education, environmental social activities/agricultural and rural development cooperation.She has previously worked for JICA Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (country of dispatch: Ecuador Occupation: Vegetable cultivation), an agricultural/rural development consulting company, an environmental NGO, etc., and has been engaged in work related to rural development and environmental preservation both domestically and internationally. .For the past 10 years or so, I have mainly worked on developing teaching materials and raising awareness about biodiversity conservation in elementary and junior high schools in Bangladesh, and developing ecotourism for fishermen in the Sundarbans, which is registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Participatory projects such as product development of natural honey using mangrove flowers as a nectar source, promotion of the sixth industry of agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishery products and fair trade in the country, and improvement of the working and living environment of garbage pickers in Khulna City. We continue to carry out practical activities and research to achieve both environmental conservation and poverty reduction.She has also been working on SDGs awareness campaigns in Japan for four years through study sessions and events.
