Toyo University held the 37th ``Modern Student Hyakunin Isshu'' and announced 100 winning poems and 10 winning poems in the elementary school category.
Toyo University's ``Modern Student Hyakunin Isshu'' is a project that was started as one of the commemorative events associated with ``Hyaku'' when Toyo University celebrated its 1987th anniversary in 100. A total of 178 entries have been submitted so far, making it the Tanka contest with the largest number of entries nationwide (according to Toyo University research, January 1,096, 2024).
The theme for the 37th session is a tanka poem that incorporates ``the way modern students see things and their sense of life.'' A total of 63,606 poems were submitted from all over the country, which were selected by Toyo University's ``Modern Student Hyakunin Isshu'' selection committee, which determined 100 winning poems and 10 winning poems in the elementary school category.

According to Toyo University, in 2023, with the coronavirus pandemic moving to Category 5, there were many poems about the sense of freedom and joy as well as confusion and anxiety as people's lifestyles returned to normal. As in 2022, there were many songs about the thoughts and activities of ``Oshi'' in the social situation, and the word ``Oshi'' was also used frequently. In addition, words such as "AI" and "ChatGPT", which were nominated as new words and buzzwords, were also used, showing that they are quickly becoming familiar.
