Azabu University signed an academic guidance contract with Asahi Breweries, Ltd. in February 2020, and started an industry-academia collaboration project aimed at popularizing "de-disposable". Asahi Breweries, Ltd., which developed the "Forest Tumbler," and university students, mainly students of the university's environmental science department, are brought together to review the consumption behavior of "disposable". Experience) ・ Work on proposals for goods (products).
Asahi Brewery Co., Ltd. and Panasonic Co., Ltd. are using natural pulp refined from wood such as thinned wood as the main raw material for the purpose of reducing "disposable plastics" that lead to an increase in marine plastic waste, which is currently a social problem. We jointly developed the world's first eco-cup "Forest Tumbler" by utilizing the paper material "high-concentration cellulose fiber molding material" derived from it.
On the other hand, the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, Azabu University proposes a new scientific field, "Future Symbiotic Science *," that predicts, discovers, and understands possible future environmental issues and practices problem solving. As one of the educational programs, we will strengthen the learning of socially collaborative projects that work on problem solving in collaboration with companies, etc., and hold Japan's largest environmental exhibition "EcoPro 2019-Toward the Realization of a Sustainable Society". In the wake of this, we started an industry-academia collaboration initiative.
In the future, Azabu University students will hold discussions with Asahi Breweries, Ltd. and consider using the "Forest Tumbler" for various beverages.By making plans to promote reuse from the perspective of university students, we will collaborate in social enlightenment of non-disposable consumer culture.
* Future symbiotic science is to predict, discover, and understand future environmental issues and solve them in line with the educational philosophy of Azabu University, "Global Symbiosis-Aiming for the Coexistence of Humans, Animals, and the Environment." A new scientific area to practice. From the perspectives of ecosystems, local communities, and health, we will promote comprehensive science with an eye on the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) to solve various issues that may occur in the future in the global symbiotic system.
