Toyota Physical and Chemical Research Institute has decided to start the "Rising Fellow System" to support young researchers who are expected to play an active role in cutting-edge fields from 2024. Associate Professor Masayuki Ohno (35) of the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University (42), Associate Professor Yuki Goto (44) of the Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo, and Designated Associate Professor Soyang Park (XNUMX) of the Immunology Frontier Center of Osaka University have been selected as recipients for the first year of the grant.
From fiscal 2023, Toyota Riken will start "scholar joint research" in which researchers from different fields work together in teams among those who have experience of the conventional research grant system "Toyota Riken Scholar." Currently, 10 teams are working on research.In the current Rising Fellow Program, up-and-coming researchers who have been selected as Toyota Riken Scholarships in the past and who are actively engaged in research activities are expected to play an active role as first-class researchers in the future.
According to Toyota Riken, Associate Professor Ohno's research theme is "Frontiers in solid-state ionics pioneered by anion compounding," Associate Professor Goto is "promoting a hybrid pseudo-natural product peptide strategy," and Associate Professor Park is "developing functional nucleic acids by biomolecular ensembles and building a platform for drug discovery."
Toyota Riken solicited candidates for grants from faculty members who belonged to universities in Japan and who had experience in conducting research activities as Toyota Riken Scholarships in the past. Up to 66 million yen, including indirect expenses, will be subsidized for up to five years.
