British higher education magazine “Times Higher Education (THE)” announced the “THE World University Rankings” for 10 on October 12, Japan time.The University of Oxford topped the list for the seventh year in a row.In the top 2023, the University of Chicago in the United States was replaced by Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, with seven in the United States and three in the United Kingdom.The University of Tokyo dropped four places from 7 to 10th, while Kyoto University fell seven places to 7th.
This year, 104 schools from 1,799 countries/regions were included in the ranking. The number of schools will increase by 2021 from 137, a record high.By country/region, 177 schools in the United States again top the list, but this is down by 2021 schools from 6.This was followed by Japan with 117 schools (previous year: 118) and the United Kingdom with 103 schools (previous year: 101).
In Japan, the University of Tokyo ranked 39th in the world, Kyoto University ranked 68th, and Tohoku University ranked 201–250.This was followed by Osaka University ranked 3st-251th (300st-301th last year) and Nagoya University ranked 350st-301th (350st-351th last year), each rising one band from 400.Osaka Public University, which was formed by the merger of Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University (both 2021+ in the previous year), ranked 1-1,201.The top private schools are Kansai Medical University (ranked 1,201-1,500 last year) and Occupational and Environmental Health University (ranked 601-800 last year).
