We asked Professor Tsuneo Suzuki, who was active as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Yomiuri Shimbun and the Chairman of the Paper Review Committee, and is currently in charge of classes such as an introduction to international liberal arts and an introduction to the media, about overseas freshman camps.

"Now, it's an era where you can look up anything and gain knowledge on your computer. It's not a bad thing, but it's not better than experience. It's a little forcible to take students overseas right after the entrance ceremony. It may be, but in terms of absorbing knowledge, the sooner you have overseas experience, the better, and by interacting with local people and directly feeling different cultures, you will be motivated to learn English and foreign cultures. In the pre-training, students were asked to “see, hear, and be amazed with their minds and hearts! I took a lot of surprises and gave them the task of submitting a report after returning to Japan. Looking at the report, 76 students on life, food culture, vehicles, war, etc. Each of them reported their own "surprise" from a completely different perspective. I feel that experiencing this "surprise" is the seed of growth that arouses intellectual curiosity. "

Active learning learning style that continues

In addition to overseas freshman camps, the Faculty of International Liberal Arts conducts various active learning activities. For example, in order to engage in international exchange as a global human resource, it is essential to learn well about our own country, that is, Japan, so we conducted fieldwork in Amami Oshima in the latter half of the first year. Also, in the latter half of the second year, it is mandatory to study abroad for about two months.Originally, there is a high goal of TOEIC (R) 1 points or higher, but the experience of short-term study abroad will significantly improve your language skills.

The first graduate will graduate in the spring three years later. How many "surprise" they experience and how they grow through various active learnings ... Expectations rise in the future.
