However, the situation has changed completely due to the corona disaster from 2020.While classes and job hunting are shifting to online, we have realized the online visit of OB / OG, which we have been considering for a long time, by utilizing the Visional Campus.Mr. Hiroshi Kikuni, Director of Career Center (Professor, Faculty of Economics) talked about the changes in career support at traditional universities and the attitude toward "career choice" required of students.

First of all, in 2020, Mr. Kikuni looked back on the job hunting activities that changed dramatically due to the new coronavirus.

"We have decided to cancel the on-campus company information session scheduled for March three days before the event.

It was really hard to tell the students about the event because it was an event with more than 350 companies participating.However, we have created a new special site that collects information necessary for job hunting using online, and released it on February 2th.The special site was created in two days by all the staff working together. "

It is in the interest of students to collaborate with companies that can share their ambitions without being too particular about "self-reliance."Until now, only the staff of the Career Center has prepared the contents of corporate research and industry research, but with this experience, we are promoting collaboration with external companies and experts.The introduction of the Visional Campus was also a step from that background.

"Originally, Ritsumeikan has created a system to strengthen the vertical connection. The career advisor system by OB / OG is part of that. As a new form of job hunting, these connections can be made online. I have been thinking about a method since 2019, and I was consulting with Bizreach. The spread of the new coronavirus struck there. Face-to-face employment support and briefing sessions cannot be held. , Many students requested OB / OG visits to the Career Center, and it became necessary to realize cooperation with Bizreach as soon as possible. As a result, it was possible to select a career while acquiring the information that the students themselves wanted to know, even in the Corona disaster.

 

Benefits for both students and alumni by going online

While there are restrictions on admission to the school, the Career Center has guided students who wish to visit OB / OG to the Visional Campus, where they can request and implement OB / OG visits online.Then, in October 2020, it was officially introduced as an official service.

"Until now, at Ritsumeikan, there have been various rules such as always visiting the Career Center when visiting an OB / OG and obtaining contact information for up to two people from the printed OB / OG list. I was thinking about the burden and information security, but I felt that it would be difficult for students to use it casually. "(Director Kikuni)

But with the introduction of the Visional Campus, that hurdle has dropped dramatically.

"Students who have been hesitant to visit OB / OG until now are now actively doing it. Not only are they freed from the restrictions of travel time, distance and costs, but they also meet for the first time with a photo of their face and an introductory text in advance. Surprisingly, some graduates have accepted about 20 visits in the last six months. Up until now, most of them were in the third grade, but I learned about the officialization of this Visional campus. The first and second graders reported it by word of mouth, and its use has spread in a wide range of grades. "

In addition, OB / OG information that was manually managed by the Career Center can now be centrally managed on the Visional Campus (assuming OB / OG permission), making operations easier. For the OB / OG side, information updates can now be completed online without going through the university, and more lively information can be delivered to students immediately.

"Our university has three campuses (Kinugasa, Biwako / Kusatsu, and Osaka Ibaraki), and we also keep OB / OG lists in each of them. It happened a lot. Not only did it improve work efficiency because it was completed online, but it also had the function of reducing the risk of managing personal information and preventing risks such as harassment, so it was safe for students.
