The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University, and Fujitsu Limited have signed a partnership to build and operate a new global database to be set up at the Global Center for Disaster Statistics.With the aim of contributing to the creation of a society that prepares for catastrophic disasters, we will build a statistical database of six developing countries in Asia by 2019, and expand the scope to 6 countries in the Asia-Pacific from 2020 onwards.

 According to Tohoku University, UNDP will guide the collection of disaster data and policy making in the construction of the database.The International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University will accumulate disaster data from each country in the Global Center for Disaster Statistics and proceed with data analysis.
Fujitsu will support the improvement of disaster prevention capacity in developing countries, and will also provide free support for work related to the development of disaster statistical data infrastructure and the construction of databases worth 3 million yen.In addition, about 3 million yen will be donated over the next three years to the support activities promoted by UNDP and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University.

 In recent years, huge disasters have occurred frequently in various countries around the world, hindering the economic and social development of developing countries.Especially in urban areas, the risk of damage may increase due to the concentration of population.For this reason, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was adopted at the 2015rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 3, and seven goals were set for 2030, including the number of deaths due to disasters, the number of victims, and the reduction of direct economic losses. rice field.
