Nagoya University will start a new system to strengthen financial support measures for students advancing to the doctoral program at the graduate school.Nagoya University's own budget of about 3 million yen will be added to the national policy, and in the doctoral program, 2 million yen will be paid annually per student, which is double the previous amount.

According to Nagoya University, out of about 3,600 students in the master's program and about 1,400 in the second semester, excluding adult students and leave of absence, 35% of the first semester course is exempt from tuition fees and 91% is exempt from tuition fees. 118%, including those, are eligible for financial support.

Under the previous system, the scope of support will be greatly expanded, with only 26% of the tuition exemption for the first semester, 42% for the tuition exemption for the second semester, and 82% for financial support. Those who are newly expanded in support will be honored students.

Up until now, the amount of support for late-stage students was 1 yen per student per year, but it will be doubled to 82 million yen.It is generally said that the amount of money that students can cover their living expenses is 2 million yen per year, and under the new system, 173% will receive support of 240 million yen or more per year.

The number of students who hesitate to go on to a doctoral course to acquire advanced research ability and specialized knowledge for economic reasons has increased, and it has been pointed out that this is one of the causes of the decline in research ability of Japan as a whole. The new system of Nagoya University will break through this situation and allow excellent students to go on to school without worrying about financial aspects. Nagoya University will support students who go on to the doctoral course as a whole.
