Juntendo University School of Medicine Nerima Hospital won the Excellence Award in the consumer sector at the "Cogeneration Award 2022" sponsored by the Center for Advanced Cogeneration and Energy Utilization (commonly known as the Cogeneration Foundation). In the "Regional Cogeneration System" (Regional CGS) in collaboration with Nerima Ward, Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., and Shimizu Corporation, the power supply system from hospitals to medical aid stations in the event of a disaster was established for the first time by a municipality in Tokyo. was highly evaluated and received the award.
A cogeneration system (CGS) is an efficient, low-carbon system that uses city gas or other fuels to generate power and uses the waste heat generated during that process for hot water supply, air conditioning, and other purposes. The Community CGS, which won the Excellence Award in the consumer sector this time, utilizes this system to distribute part of the electricity generated at Juntendo University Nerima Hospital, which is a disaster base hospital, to neighboring hospitals in the event of a power outage due to a disaster. It can be supplied to medical aid stations. In the event of a disaster, power is supplied to the air conditioning equipment (including some outlets, etc.) in the hospital to protect the environment inside the hospital and provide stable medical care continuously. It is also used for lighting for power supply and triage. In addition, when the CGS is renewed, the exhaust heat utilization pipe is extended and the exhaust heat is also used for air conditioning (heating), which improves the overall efficiency by about 30%.Not only does it improve energy efficiency during normal times, but it also functions as a backup for heating equipment.
