On October 2023, 10, C-ENGINE, a national industry-academia collaboration consortium with its secretariat in Kyoto City, will open an event for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers between Mitacs, an industry-academia collaboration organization in British Columbia, Canada, and Japan and Canada. A basic agreement was signed to promote international internships.
According to C-ENGINE, the basic agreement signing ceremony was held at the Canadian Embassy in Japan in Minato-ku, Tokyo, and after both C-ENGINE and Mitacs explained the current status of research internships, C-ENGINE Chairman Hiroshi Kokufu Kyoto University Vice President and Mitacs CEO John Hepburn signed the letter of intent.
Afterwards, Satoshi Kawakami, director of the University Collaboration Promotion Office at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, said, ``During the meeting between former Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Fusae Ota and Prime Minister of British Columbia David Eby in May, both governments supported the exchange of information between C-ENGINE and Mitacs. "We have confirmed that we will do so," he said, expressing his hopes for the promotion of exchanges.
C-ENGINE was established in 2014.Currently, 18 universities such as Kyoto University, University of Tokyo, and Osaka University and 31 private companies such as Sumitomo Electric, Shimadzu, and Ricoh are members, and we are working to implement research internships for graduate students and their effective and efficient implementation. We are proceeding with the preparation of an environment for this purpose.
Mitacs is a government-affiliated non-profit organization that aims to solve problems for universities and research institutes in Canada and abroad by connecting them with industry through internships and research partnerships.
