Students produce debuts of high school artists

``EDOGAWA GIRLS AWARD'' is planned and managed by students of the Music and Fashion Business Course of the Department of Business Sociology, Faculty of Sociology. In particular, "NEXTAGE ARTIST AUDITION" is a one-time event held between the second and third years in which students produce with their own hands the band that has been selected as the grand prize winner from among the applicants as an exercise and practical training for the music business course. It's a big project.Through this project, students will gain first-hand experience in the music business.

The event itself will be run mainly by third year students. For second-year students, they can learn about planning and management in a hands-on manner similar to that of third-year students, and it also serves as a preparation period for taking the initiative in the next year. The first thing that must be determined in this project, which will be carried out over two years, is the ``application conditions'' for high school artists. This is also the first important opportunity to discuss the events we plan and manage.

Airi Takahashi is currently a third-year student in the music business course who served as a producer.
``In order to encourage as many high school students as possible to apply, last year we added an application condition that allowed male band members other than the main vocalist.'' We have changed the application condition, which was previously limited to girls, and are looking forward to the future. One step closer to possibility.

Once the application conditions are decided, the production of posters for announcements will begin. However, this took a very long time, says Takayoshi Imaizumi, a third-year student who was in charge of editing and production, and who led the group as a seminar leader in his second year.

``First of all, nothing will start unless I create a poster to recruit participants.I asked friends to model for me and take photos for me, and it was my first time creating a design, so I was just trying to figure it out. There is no right answer, so... In the end, it took about two months because we came up with so many ideas and had so many different opinions. It was difficult to compile the opinions of 2 people when it came to shooting artist photos and music videos, so we had to create multiple plans and designs. "I was able to consolidate everyone's ideas into one," he said, looking back on those days.

Management is divided into groups, such as a group that communicates with management, an artwork team that shoots and edits videos, and a music team that mainly provides opinions on music, and the leader of each group summarizes their opinions as a whole. advanced.

Students will be involved in the process of debuting an artist with the help of music producers, record companies, and other professionals in various fields. This time, with the cooperation of Pony Canyon Co., Ltd., electrocapacity's public relations activities and song promotion will be carried out in an industry-academia collaboration centered on SNS.

What “EDOGAWA GIRLS AWARD” brings to students

``There are many talented artists who are unknown to the world.I wanted to be able to manage such people in a variety of ways, so when I was looking for various universities, I decided to take the music business course at Edogawa University. I chose Electro Capacity's debut performance, which I produced for the EDOGAWA GIRLS AWARD, and I was very happy to be able to witness their growth.I myself couldn't do anything at first, but this... I think that in one year, I was able to hone various skills necessary for artist management and production, such as video editing and design production (Mr. Imaizumi).

``I would like to work overseas someday. In that sense, I entered the music business course thinking that since music is universal, there are many things I can learn and put to use.The ``EDOGAWA GIRLS AWARD'' People from various companies and professionals from the music industry are involved, so first of all, say hello. Then, ask them to remember your name, ask questions before they are asked, and show that you are willing to learn. I tried to act in a way that people would understand. What I felt most through this project was the power of everyone working together. That's why I want to be a person who can adjust in any environment. This time, My role was as a producer, but that doesn't mean that the producer is in charge of everything; I think it's important for the sound team, editing team, etc. to each take initiative and fulfill their roles depending on the situation. Also, when you try something, there are teachers who watch over you and tell you if you make a mistake, saying, ``It might be wrong.''Failure is also an asset, so this environment where you can learn different points of view is very valuable, and I thought that I should continue to share what I want to do (Takahashi).''

Professor Naoki Sekine, who has worked at the forefront of the music industry in advertising, marketing, and helping Japanese artists expand overseas, says he was surprised by the changes in students through the EDOGAWA GIRLS AWARD.

``When they first came to the seminar, I was a little worried, wondering if they were okay or if they could really do it, but I wonder what made them change so much over the past year or two.'' He has shown me how much he has grown, and I am very happy about that.”

The knowledge and skills such as ``creativity'' and ``production ability'' cultivated through this project are now in demand in any business. As students go out into the workforce, they realize that the experience and skills they acquire through the practice of producing high school artists in the music business course can be applied not only to the music industry but also to various businesses. Must.
