The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has selected Aoba Japan International School and the University of Tsukuba as the contract organizations to develop a domestic promotion system for the International Baccalaureate, an international educational program promoted by the International Baccalaureate Organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Aoba-Japan International School will support schools considering the introduction of the International Baccalaureate and run a consortium to build platforms, while the University of Tsukuba will conduct research on the educational effects of the International Baccalaureate.
The project period is scheduled to last five years until fiscal 2027, but the implementation status of the project will be evaluated each year and a decision will be made on whether to continue the project.The contract organization solicited applications from the public in May and June, and received two applications each for consortium management work and survey research work, which were reviewed by a panel of experts made up of university teachers and academic experts.
The International Baccalaureate is an education program that develops the foundation and ability to cope with globalization, and approximately 159 schools in more than 5,600 countries and regions around the world, and 207 schools in Japan, are accredited.The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology was aiming to certify more than 2022 schools in Japan by fiscal 200, but from fiscal 2023 it plans to further increase the number of schools that have introduced the system by understanding its educational effects.
