Professor Akemi Tomoda and Professor Jung Min-young of the University of Fukui Children's Mental Development Research Center have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the brain structure of children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), and are specific to children with ADHD. It was clarified with high accuracy that the brain part is characteristic.
ADHD is one of the developmental disorders, and although it is known that there are genetic factors and brain development factors in the onset, the mechanism is not well understood. So far, the group has elucidated the genetic factors and brain development factors surrounding the onset of ADHD by grasping the brain structure and network by MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and this time, by using AI, the brain We thought that it would be possible to clarify the relationship between image data diagnosis and genetic factors in children with ADHD.
As a result of the examination, it was found that the characteristics of ADHD appear in the thickness of the cortex in 148 regions such as the outside of the orbitofrontal cortex and the area of the cortex in 16 regions out of the 11 regions of the brain, and the ADHD can be identified with an accuracy of 74 to 79%. I found it possible.
Furthermore, in the orbitofrontal cortex of these brain regions, we were able to confirm the relationship between the polymorphism of the COMT gene, which is one of the factors of ADHD and affects executive function (difficulty in working memory), and the brain structure. ..In addition, as a result of verification using an international database, the characteristics of agricultural parts were confirmed with an accuracy of 73% even in children with ADHD in the United States and China, suggesting the possibility of international application.
In this test method, the measurement time is as short as XNUMX minutes or less, it is not necessary to perform a specific task during the test, and the burden on the subject is small. It is expected that "ADHD can be diagnosed by brain science by MRI imaging" in the future.
