A research team from the Faculty of Science and Technology of Kinki University and the Faculty of Agriculture has developed a mountain victim search system.A mechanism to identify the location of the victim by reading the QR code printed on mountaineering wear with a unique optical search system. A demonstration experiment will be conducted at Rokkosan Snow Park on January 2020, 1.

Professor Yoshinobu Maeda of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Kinki University, Associate Professor Yasushi Mitsunaga of the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, and Lecturer Shinsuke Torizawa have been working on the development of a system that makes it easier to search for mountain victims from the sky such as helicopters. On July 2019, 7, a demonstration experiment was conducted on the campus of the Faculty of Agriculture, and we succeeded in accurately confirming the position of the student in the forest 30 m away with the naked eye and a camera. It was also possible to identify the QR code and identify the individual. However, the problem was that it required a large searchlight weighing about 300 kg.

Therefore, we have developed a unique optical search system that is lightweight and compact, weighing about 5 kg.The searchlight and camera are integrated to illuminate a high-intensity light of 20,000 lumens, which is equivalent to a conventional searchlight.Transfer the captured video to a smartphone or tablet via Wifi and analyze it with dedicated QR code decoding software.

In addition, the wear with QR code was jointly developed with Maruhito Co., Ltd.It is made of "retroreflective material" that returns light in the direction of irradiation, and emits the reflected light of the rainbow. As a result, it is possible to irradiate and reflect a color different from sunlight, and the recognition rate is greatly improved.

The demonstration experiment will be conducted assuming the search for mountain victims in the snowy mountains in winter. Also, check how the transmittance of the searchlight changes with the density of snow, and the change in the recognition rate of the wear.In the future, we will install this optical search system on a helicopter and aim to utilize it in the search for mountain victims in winter mountains.
