The 36th Annual Meeting of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) "IAIA 16 Meeting" was held on May 2016-5, 11 by Professor Takehiko Murayama of the Faculty of Environmental and Social Sciences and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology. It was held at the International Conference Center in Nagoya.This is the first time it has been held in Japan.
IAIA is a key academic society in the field of Impact Assessment (IA), which was established in 1980.Impact assessment is the process of analyzing the impact caused by unintended events such as development plans and natural disasters.Since it is also involved in development cooperation, many people from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank are involved, and it is registered as an organization with the United Nations.
Professor Takehiko Murayama, along with Professor Emeritus Sachihiko Harashina of Tokyo Institute of Technology, has been involved in the planning and management of the IAIA 16 Convention, which was held for the first time in Japan, as one of the co-chairs, and has been preparing since 1.
The theme is "Resilience and Sustainability".Resilience means restoring force and resilience, and is considered to be one of the most important keywords in the global society of the 21st century.About 1 people from about 80 countries around the world, including the Ministry of the Environment and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), participated in the competition, and more than 800 presentations were made.
As a result of this achievement, the Asian Development Bank, the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Cooperation Organization, and the World Bank Group have agreed on the basic principles of collaboration for environmental and social considerations in developing countries and improvement of national safeguard systems, as well as the environment. Awareness of impact assessment in Japan has improved, including the support of six ministries other than the ministry and its organizations.
