Behind the new entrance examination system is the curriculum reform implemented in 2020.Rikkyo University has introduced a new English curriculum since 2020.Until now, English education has been well-established as it is called "Rikkyo in English".A placement test is conducted at the time of admission to the university, an optimal class is organized according to each student's English proficiency, and a course called "English Discussion" is offered throughout the year so that students with class members with almost the same level of English proficiency can easily engage in discussions. The subjects are held in a small group of about 10 students per class, and since discussions are held on familiar themes, students who are not accustomed to using English can actively participate, which has a great educational effect.In this curriculum reform, this "English discussion" will be offered only in the spring semester, and a new "English debate" course will be offered from the fall semester.



　This "English debate" is divided into pros and cons and discussions in English on social issues. There are about 1 students in one class, and in the classes before and after the discussion, there is also time for preparation and reflection.In order to debate, it is necessary not only to speak in English, but also to understand the other person's story and to argue against it, and to have a rationale for that. Through the "English Debate", the goal is for all first-year students to acquire the ability to think critically and logically, to collect and utilize information, and to have constructive discussions with others.Such English proficiency is one of the indispensable abilities for global leaders, but recently, the number of situations where such abilities are required is increasing dramatically even in normal business and social life.By the way, this "English discussion" and "English debate" are part of the new English education curriculum, and the ultimate goal is to build an education system that "learns specialized fields in English" such as economics and law.

　In order to make a smooth landing after enrollment in response to such new learning, it is desirable that the enrolled students are motivated to improve their English proficiency or have some experience using it.Therefore, from the 2021 entrance examination, the university's own English test will be abolished in principle, and a private English qualification / certification test that can properly measure the four skills will be introduced.In addition to the designated English qualifications and certification exams, the English grades of the Common Test for University Admissions are also available, and only the Faculty of Letters has an exam date that allows you to take the university's own English exam.
