Universities and junior colleges selected for the 28 "Private University Research Branding Project" have been announced.Forty of the 198 private universities and junior colleges that applied (Note) were targeted for support.A special subsidy of 40 to 1 million yen will be provided for each research and initiative.

 This project supports the efforts of universities to build their own valuable brands. It will be implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology from this year, and will be selected by the "Private University Research Branding Business Committee" consisting of academic experts. do. Funding "university-wide efforts under the leadership of the President, not support for individual research projects".Against the backdrop of the declining birthrate and the decline of local communities, the intention is to connect the uniqueness and diversity of private universities to the development of society as a whole.

 There are two types of research fields.There are "social expansion type" type A that contributes to the development of the local community and "global expansion type" type B that has an international perspective and expansion.The maximum amount of subsidy is 2 million yen for Type A and 2,000 million yen for Type B.

This time, 129 out of 17 applications were selected for Type A, and 69 out of 23 applications were selected for Type B.Many of the selections were made by taking advantage of the characteristics of each university and junior college, such as giving back to society through new technologies, contributing to the local industry and economy, and creating intellectual skills that meet social needs.

By region, there are 17 schools in Tokyo, 6 schools each in Hokuriku / Tokai and Kinki, and 2-3 schools each in Hokkaido / Tohoku, China / Shikoku, Kyushu / Okinawa, etc.By field, there are 20 schools in the humanities / social fields, followed by 15 schools and 11 schools in the science / engineering / information fields and biological doctors, respectively.

The number of applicant schools has increased, and the selection rate has dropped to 20% within the limited budget.The committee urges selected schools to clarify their visions, to embody business plans, and to continue to promote university-wide efforts for unselected universities.
