Research members such as NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) and Assistant Professor Takahiro Nozaki of Keio University have succeeded in developing a dual-arm robot capable of transmitting physical sensations. This robot not only allows you to catch it with your eyes and ears, but also allows you to work remotely while feeling as if you were touching it directly with your hands.

Humans can flexibly perform various tasks by adjusting the amount of force by the sense of force and touch. However, conventional robots cannot take advantage of the feeling of touching an object, and may destroy objects of different shapes or soft objects.

The robot "General Purpose Arm" developed this time transmits visual, auditory, tactile, and moving sensations, so the operator can operate it from a distant place with a high sense of presence. In particular, tactile transmission was realized by installing the world's first technology (real haptics technology) that makes the robot feel as if it were in direct contact with an object. In addition, a vision system consisting of a head-mounted display and a stereo camera is used to transmit visual and auditory information.Furthermore, the muscle contraction measurement system transmits the state of the operator's leg to the robot and controls the movement.

The fields of activity of robots are diverse. For example, it is possible to work safely and reliably in an extreme environment such as a radiation environment, a high place, or in the deep sea, or in a dangerous environment. In addition, productivity is improved by dexterous and delicate work on production lines that handle small quantities of varieties and soft ones.Furthermore, remote musical instrument performances, cherry blossom viewing and shopping on behalf of others are not dreams.

This robot makes it possible to generate motions that are highly adaptable to the environment, free from spatiotemporal constraints. As a substitute for humans, it is expected to be used for automation and labor saving in fields that require labor and labor, such as industry, home, welfare and long-term care, medical care, and agriculture, and for work in collaboration with humans.
