Associate Professor Yasuyoshi Tosa of the Department of Plastic Surgery, Showa University School of Medicine received the Chevalier Medal of the Republic of Madagascar.
Showa University Hospital established Japan's first cleft lip and palate * medical team in 1980, and has treated more than 4,000 patients so far. Since 2011, a medical team headed by Associate Professor Tosa has been dispatched to the Republic of Madagascar to treat children suffering from cleft lip and palate.This award recognizes Associate Professor Tosa's achievements in surgery on more than 150 children with cleft lip and palate in the Republic of Madagascar.
On December 2017, 12, a medal ceremony was held at the Embassy of Madagascar in Japan, and Associate Professor Tosa received a medal from the President of the Republic of Madagascar, Rajaonarimampianina.The ceremony was attended by the President and Mrs. Madagascar, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Manabu Horii of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Ichiro Ogasawara of the Japanese Embassy in Madagascar.Associate Professor Tosa said, "I would like to continue doing what I can for children with cleft lip and palate in Madagascar and Madagascar.
