In April 2023, the Open University of Japan, which will celebrate its 4th anniversary since its founding, will renew the BS TV program organization with the aim of making broadcasting easier to watch and learn.

Currently, the BS Open University of Japan broadcasts “BS231 Channel,” which provides a variety of opportunities for re-learning beyond the framework of class programs, “BS232 Channel,” which mainly broadcasts TV class programs for students, and radio class subjects. It is broadcast on 531 channels of "BS3 Channel".

From April 2023, all TV programs will be broadcast on the BS4 channel, both "TV class programs" and "lifelong learning support programs" mainly for students of the Open University (radio class channels will not change).

As a result, some class programs that were previously only broadcast in standard definition (SD) quality will now be available in high definition (HD) quality. In addition, the broadcasting time will be almost 6 hours from 00:5 to 15:24, which will greatly increase viewing opportunities.

The BS232 channel will be used as a sub-channel, and the class program that was broadcast on the BS232 channel during the daytime will be rebroadcast on the BS231 channel from the evening of the same day to the next morning.

With this renewal, students of various generations and various occupations will find it easier to learn and highly convenient broadcasting.
