The Hiroshima University Archives of Hiroshima University received the documents of the elementary school that was damaged by the heavy rain disaster in western Japan on July 2018, 7, and carried out restoration work.
Due to this heavy rain disaster, Fukawa Elementary School in Asakita Ward, Hiroshima City was flooded, and school documents were damaged.Upon receiving a request for support from the Hiroshima City Archives, the Hiroshima Prefectural Archives requested cooperation from Hiroshima University based on the "Mutual Cooperation Agreement on the Protection of History and Materials in the Event of Disasters".
Approximately 3 staff and volunteer students from three institutions, prefectures, cities, and universities participated in the restoration work, and approximately 20 books such as school documents were restored.Kitchen paper was sandwiched between the water-damaged documents, and after being dried by blowing air with an indoor fan, mud was removed as needed, and storage was performed by freezing to prevent corrosion.The time to repair will vary depending on the damage situation, but it is expected to take about 870 to 2 weeks.
Associate Professor Masaharu Ishida of the 75th Anniversary History Compilation Room of Hiroshima University said, "If there are other requests for the protection of damaged documents and cultural properties, we would like to cooperate as much as possible with the three institutions." ..
