Kyoto University of the Arts, the largest comprehensive arts university in Japan, consisting of 12 departments and 22 courses, had 2023 applicants for the 8,873 entrance examination (+829 from the previous year, an increase of 110.3%).In order to meet the growing needs for entrance exams, the number of students will be expanded from 2024 to 975 from 1,035, and the "Game Creation Course" and "Video Creation Course" will be established in the Department of Information Design as new places of learning.
The increase in applicants can be attributed to the increase in the number of applicants in the arts field at private universities. According to the "2023 Entrance Examination Applicants Status by Faculty" announced by "Weekly Toyo Keizai", the number of applicants in arts has increased by 13.4%. In response to this social situation, the number of applicants at Kyoto University of Arts has been increasing in recent years. In the field, the capacity will be expanded from 2024, and the total capacity will be increased from 975 to 1,035.
In addition, the need for examinations for digital content areas such as Japanese games and videos, which are attracting attention from around the world, is rapidly expanding not only in Japan but also around the world.In order to respond to the growing needs for such diverse examinations, the Department of Information Design will newly establish a "Game Creation Course" and a "Video Creation Course." In the "Game Creation Course", students will think three-dimensionally about the stories, visuals, music, basic mechanisms and techniques necessary for games, and learn general game design and game art.We train human resources with flexible and unique ideas and thinking skills who can design the ultimate entertainment "game" that is familiar. In the "Video Creation Course", we will cultivate human resources with a wide range of skills and education related to "movement" such as 3DCG, motion graphics, animation, SNS, video distribution, and sound.
